Several schools have been aggressively ensuing green
practices for several years and have acquired some terrific output. When you
are quiet asking yourself, what can my local
school do to become greener, let me offer these points to public
parents, operations, teachers and administrators folks as a small list of
things you can do tomorrow to green up your school.
Once you classify the big sources of garbage, you can
begin to tackle the problem and work to eliminate as more of that as possible.
One of the largest sources is tableware, or much specifically, the plates, bowls,
containers and cutlery that take thrown out each day from cafeteria or another
food service locations. Eliminating this bulky and long-way trash problem goes
a long term toward "greening up" some operation.
Other large source of trash, the type that is unsightly on
streets and in parks is the proverbial coffee cup lid. There are presently
compostable coffee cup lids, made from sugar cane and other fibers that will
compost in a commercial compost facility in as small as 60 days. This cannot be
a problem at the public
elementary school, but it definitely is on a college campus, with students trying
to stay up late to cram for finals.
